I am very proud to be the caretaker of these unique properties. When I saw the land seven years ago, I viewed it as a beautiful gift that should be shared with as many people as possible. I hope that you will be able to fit Paul's Lodge or Paul's Cabin into your vacation plans. You will leave refreshed and renewed with the goal of returning back soon.
DISCLAIMER: When it's all said and done, Paul's Lodge might not turn out exactly as I've mentioned. Once I start moving dirt, razing roofs, expanding foundations and knocking down walls I'm sure that new ideas will pop up. I offer the concept advertised with the promise of a spectacular property. (At last year's rates!) I will continue to update this page as the lodge continues to take shape.
Paul's Lodge used to be known as Clearwater Cabin. The twelve year old charming cabin with four bedrooms rested on a precious piece of wooded property on 200 feet of private Skaneateles Lake frontage. Clearwater Cabin was fully booked last summer. I'm excited about our grand ideas for enhancing this stunning property.
Paul's Cabin and Paul's Lodge are neighboring properties that will compliment each other with different, individual characteristics. My friends and family have asked me: "Will the Lodge be even better than the Cabin?" Our goal is to make Paul's Lodge on par with Paul's Cabin .... just a uniquely different experience.
Paul's Lodge was carefully designed to serve the purposes of two seemingly different types of vacationers. With beds for 11 and a large indoor/outdoor living space on the main floor, the lodge is suited for large or multi family vacations, corporate groups, "all girls or guys weekends" etc. On the other hand, the design is cleverly laid out to accommodate the small, intimate group that wants a peaceful, cozy respite on the lake. The Lodge is ideal for the romantic couple wanting to enjoy the fall leaves as well as the family vacationers. I believe we've pulled it off.
.............. let me tell you more about Paul's Lodge. In fact, let's go on a tour together. (I apologize for the schematics below. I'm artistic but my sketching skills are marginal.) Let's go!
As you look at the artist's rendering above, visualize that we have just driven a mile through an oak forest. Through hills, streams and gorges you're deep in the heart of nature; you've just escaped the hustle and bustle of civilization. The new driveway takes us directly in front of the cabin on a level area. Your eyes are filled with the lodge nestled in the forest; Skaneateles Lake is just 100 feet away in the background. It is quiet. Real quiet. But you can hear the wind through the trees and the breezes from the lake. A wood pecker is working in the backround. You've really arrived.
As you approach the front entry, you have three choices. To your left you see a "Swiss Family Robinson" style walk way with a rope bridge leading to an enclosed gazebo with a grand piano. To your right, you see a cobble pathway leading behind the house for some mysterious reason. After looking left and right, you choose to enter straight ahead into the main entry. (Unfortunately you're not the "road less traveled" type...I probably would have gone right.)
As we walk through the front door, you see the lake through a two story wall of glass and timbers. To your immediate left is a field stone wall with a fireplace centered in the middle. Farther to your left you see the gazebo with the grand piano and you walk in that direction. It's a beautiful ebony piano with a player system built into it. You make the decision to enjoy an evening in front of the fireplace with a bottle of a fine Finger Lakes wine while the piano entertains you. You walk closer to the back of the great room and look out over the lake in the background. On the other side of the glass, you see a deck in front of you with some lounges for sunning and relaxing within earshot of the piano music.
We then take a right and head into the kitchen. It's open with stainless appliances, hickory cabinets and granite counter tops. Nice. I then suggest that we continue straight ahead to the french doors which lead to a covered outdoor living room.
As we enter the covered deck, you see a massive fireplace straight ahead filled with trees in the background. The fireplace can make a roaring "ten-log" fire. Of course it can.... it's a Lodge. Above the mantel is a flat screen television with surround sound throughout the deck. To your left, we walk towards the elevated roof area that frames a beautiful picture of the forested lake. We sit down on a rocking chair and rock for a few minutes while we take in all the sounds and smells of nature. You look to your left and see a breakfast table on the deck. The thought enters your mind: tomorrow morning, that's where I will drink my Starbucks coffee.
You ask me, "what's next?" We decide to see the master loft.
As we head back into the kitchen, we glance to the left
and see the main floor bathroom and bedroom. It has two twin beds that
can be made together as a king bed when requested. I mention that all
the floors of the lodge are red oak hardwood, milled from the very trees
that stood on this property. I challenge you to find a dust bunny or a
fingerprint on any of the glass windows and surfaces. You can't and you recall how
spotless the kitchen was ... the stove's drip pans were clean, the
refrigerator was empty and shined on the inside and the cabinets were
stocked with spices, condiments and all the little things that an
adventure to a new home would require.
As we climb the oak staircase, you look to your left and see the massive field stone wall, the piano room and the glassed wall overlooking the lake. You notice the timber framed ceiling and the post and beam supports throughout the living space. It's a beautiful sight; an image that could be in a timber frame home magazine.
The stairs terminate to a landing leading to a sitting room. The two sofa chairs can be converted into twin sleeper beds. The sitting room can be converted into a fifth bedroom .... especially for families with young children who want to sleep close to Mom and Dad. There's a flat screen television and on the coffee table sits an ice bucket with a bottle of wine.
Before heading into the master bedroom, we turn right into the master bathroom. The room has a double, granite-topped sink with shelves filled with fresh luxury towels. The shower is tiled with a solid glass enclosure and an over sized sunflower shower head .... this bathroom looks like it belongs in a five star lodge. Of course there's a basket with soap, shampoo and lotions etc.
As we enter the master bedroom, we see a glass and timber wall overlooking the lake. Because of its height, it is the most spectacular view of the lake. You recall that Skaneateles Lake is the second purest lake in the entire world and its beauty is arguably second to no one. The master bedroom has a king sized bed, made fresh with hotel linens and a ceiling fan overhead. As you look ahead, there is a door that leads out onto a master balcony. You've changed your mind ..... you've just found a new spot for tomorrow's coffee.
Let's walk downstairs and see the other two bedrooms.
As we walk down the oak staircases, we enter an authentic wine cellar. To the left are racks filled with bottles of Finger Lakes award-winning wines. I mention that Paul's Lodge was designed as a getaway where friends and family can relax and enjoy their time together. They can even take their own wine trail tour without leaving the basement.
The wine cellar is converted into a spa with massage chairs and a flat screen television. Hidden behind the spa are two bedrooms and a bath. The queen size bedroom and the adjacent bedroom for three (one full bed and one twin bunk bed) can comfortably accommodate a second family.
The spa room continues out onto the covered deck. It really is a spa! It is my favorite part of the whole lodge. Just like all luxury lodges ..... a spa is a must. The hot tub is covered underneath the piano gazebo; there is a two person sauna, an outdoor shower, lounges, and even a massage table. I offer the phone number for a therapist who can visit the lodge for treatments.
From the spa, we look out towards the lake and see two tiered decks below.
The deck to the right is a hammock deck with a two person hammock. It's a great place to take a nap and cuddle up in the shade. The deck to the left is fire pit deck. Everything at the lodge is luxurious, but how can you go into the woods for a vacation without enjoying a good, old fashioned campfire. You can't. (of course we provide the firewood too.) The final set of stairs leads down the lake. It's about a 15 foot staircase and leads to the most beautiful swimming lake you can imagine. The floor is rock (no mud and sea weeds) and the water is crystal clear. It looks like the Caribbean and you can see the bottom of the lake ten feet deep.
To your left you can see a pontoon boat on a mooring. It's Paul's Pontoon, of course, and is available exclusively for the guests at Paul's Cabin and Paul's Lodge. (ask for details).
I'm certain after touring the lodge you would ask .... "How do I sign up"? Well, it's quite simple and painless. Click on the "CONTACT" tab on the upper left to shoot me an email. I'm really good about returning emails and you'll hear back from me via my smart phone very quickly. Thanks for coming along ....
